On Monday the 16th of November, Stephen Murray from Inspireland
came to our school to teach us about poetry. Our activity started off with a number of games. The first game we played we had to write down everything we would do to someone who hurt us. I though that this was very fun and it helped me see the angry side of poetry. The second game was Our likes and dislikes of boys and girls. We then listened to everyone's funny answers. Finally we wrote down five ' I AM ' sentences. This got me thinking. Although this was an easy task I had some trouble. After lunch we watched a sad poem/ rant. It was about unfairness in society. It outlined bullies and their victims. It showed us their thoughts and feelings. We learned that you should never judge anyone and that you can't compare your problems to anyone else no matter what you're going through. Finally we had to submit a poem to Inspireland. We could write about anything and it could be as long as we wanted. I found it quite hard to come up with a topic but then settled on writing about my father's pub.
Reflection:
Before we did the poetry slam I thought that it would be extremely uninteresting and boring. I was clearly wrong as it was very interesting and fun. Steven showed us the fun in poetry and made the experience very worth while!
